The Doctoral School of Information Science and Technology organised 5 events on 28th August 2019; two home defences, a viva, a complex exam and a comprehensive exam.

All of our students succeeded in taking the exams. Jun Yow Yong defended his PhD thesis titled „Tools and Methods in Aiding Heat Exchanger Network Retrofit for Better Economic Performance” successfully.

Luke McNamara is a senior analyst at FireEye, a publicly listed cybersecurity company that provides products and services to protect against advanced cyber threats. He works on the company’s Horizon’s team in the Washington, DC area, and conducts strategic forecasting to anticipate risks posed by emerging technologies and geopolitical developments. McNamara has expertise in countering disinformation.  Additionally, he supported the establishment of a cyber threat intelligence team at one of the largest banks in Australia. Prior to working in the cybersecurity industry, McNamara spent several years supporting a defense contractor on various counterinsurgency programs. He is available for virtual/traveling programs.


The Cyber Threat Landscape Today—what information cyber criminals and cyber espionage groups are targeting, and how their tools and tactics have evolved. This talk will cover the current activity of many different threat actors, and highlight why it is important to understand their motivations to properly counter disinformation, intrusions, ransomware, and other cyber threats.

The Faculty organised a so-called multiplier event on 9th July 2019 in order to present the innovations of the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership project titled „Setting the trends in IoT”. Besides the visitors from Hungary we had quests from Romania, Ireland and from Macedonia as well. In the framework of the demo part our colleagues and our students presented the prototypes of the newly developed smart IoT devices (e. g: mini traffic lights, windmill and smart door).

The regular PhD report session took place on 21st June.

Degree ceremony at the Faculty of Information Technology

on 5th July 2019 at 10 am

Please, find below some pieces of practical information about the ceremony. 

  • All the students participating in the ceremony are entitled to get 4 invitation cards for free. (The card is not equal to entrance ticket, you can invite as many guests as you want.). You can get them in I/728 in working time from 21st June 2019 as well as on the day of the ceremony while getting the cloaks.
  • Students need to wear a cloak while receiving the degree. Borrowing a cloak is free and compulsory. They can be borrowed before the ceremony between 8 and 9.15 am in the conference hall on the ground floor in building B. We kindly ask our students to get their cloaks till 9.15 and take a seat till 9:45 in the Aula. The cloaks have to be taken back after the ceremony till 12:30 am. Both the receiving as well as the taking back the cloaks have to be authorised by your signature.
  • The guests arriving by car can park in the parking area behind building A and building B.
  • Your guests can take a seat on the ground floor as well as on the first floor. In case you will have a guest with disability, please notify us.
  • While receiving the degree all students will be taken a photo. Therefore, we kindly ask your guests to take phones only from the first floor.
  • You can receive your degree supplement and your course book at the Directorate of Academic Affairs in the opening hours. All the documents can only be received personally after identifying yourself.
  • You can receive your degree when getting the cloak.
