Game theoretic and mechanism design approaches for infrastructure networks

We give a short overview of examples demonstrating the application of game theoretic approaches for engineering problems in the topic of infrastructure networks and systems. First, we consider the scenario of natural gas networks and show how transferable utility cooperative games may be used to characterize market power. Second we provide a basic linear model scenario of resource sharing in structured mobile wireless telecommunication networks, and demonstrate how the theory of fair division and cake cutting may be an alternative in cases where centralized approaches are not applicable. Finally we discuss some aspects of mechanism design of electricity markets focussing on integrated markets, where power and resources are dispatched simultaneously. We give an impression of how the market clearing problem may be formulated as large-scale mixed integer optimization problem, considering transmission constraints as well.

Watson in the cloud - DIY AI kits for rapid solutions

AI is experiencing an increased interest in the past couple of years, thanks to promising results in the field from many aspects. Watson is one of the most evolved solution, encompassing many domains of AI.
In the first part of the presentation we will discuss, what are the latest advancements and successes, see some very promising solutions and how they can improve our daily lives, and try to understand the phenomenon from a business prospective. In the second part, we will overview how to benefit from the IBM Cloud and its components, focusing on those APIs that are AI-specific. We will also implement our first Watson-application, and get directions about how to build new DIY solutions in the future with the help of ready-made, easy-to-consume, trainable components.

A Szaud Arábiában alapított „King Salman Award for Disability Research” díjat olyan kutatók nyerhették el második alkalommal, akik kimagasló tudományos eredményeik mellett a kutatásukat, munkásságukat a fogyatékkal élő embertársaik életvitelének, rehabilitációjuk segítésére fordítják.
Idén is 4 díjazott részesülhetett ebben az elismerésben. Két szaud-arábiai kutató: Dr. Saeid Nen Abdullah Ibrahim Bu Halikah, Dr. Naser Ben Aly Ben Abdullah és Európából 2 díjazott vehette át a megtisztelő elismerést: Dr Stefano Vicari olasz orvos és Sikné dr. Lányi Cecília a Műszaki Informatikai Kar docense.
A díjra több mint 900 ajánlást küldtek be a világ minden részéből. A bíráló bizottság a második bírálati fordulóban, ahol már csak 200 jelölt maradt 22 országból választotta ki a 4 díjazottat. Sikné dr. Lányi Cecília az elmúlt 25 évben végzett széleskörű multidiszciplináris kutatásaiért kapta, mely a virtuális világok, játékok tervezésétől az internet akadálymentesítésén keresztül az informatika rehabilitációs célú kutatásáig terjed.
Az ünnepélyes díjátadásra Riyadban, Szaud Arábiában került sor az 5. Disability & Rehabilitation nemzetközi konferencián 2018 április első hetében. A díjat His Royal Prince Higness Sultan Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud herceg és Dr. Sultan T. Al-Sedairy, a King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre ügyvezető igazgatója adta át a díjazottaknak.

András élménybeszámolóját itt olvashatjátok:
"A Tata Consultancy Services által szervezett "TCS Code Vita" nevű programozói verseny döntőjén voltam most február 23. és 28. között, az indiai Bangalore-ban. A versenyre egy egyetemi levelezőlistában való felhívás alapján lettem figyelmes, ott csak egy online versenyként volt még meghirdetve, hallgatók számára. Otthonról elvégezhető, hat órás feladatsort ígértek a szervezők, én pedig szombaton úgyis be akartam menni az irodámba, így hát leültem, és megoldottam a weblapjukon közzétett feladatokat a hatórás határidőn belül. Ez történt valamikor november végén.
