invites you to the seminar entitled:

Image Quality Assessment from Technical and Aesthetic Perspectives

Presenting: Prof. Lin Weisi

Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Date: 14th May 2025

Time: 14:00

Venue: University of Pannonia, building I, 726.

Abstract

Automatic visual quality assessment can be divided into two major categories: 1) technical quality assessment (TQA) to evaluate visual distortions, e.g., noise, blur, and various processing artifacts; 2) aesthetic quality assessment (AQA) to focus on aesthetic factors, e.g., composition, rule of thirds, depth of field, color harmony, semantic characteristics, and so on.  Assessment of image quality in an objective manner shapes many algorithms and systems of visual intelligence, since definition and measurement of visual signal quality play central roles in the related processes, like image acquisition, compression, transmission, and various client-end tasks. In this talk, we will first give a review of the advances on image/video TQA. Then, we introduce the principles and recent research progress on AQA, including generic AQA (G-AQA) and personalized AQA (P-AQA). We hope to trigger discussion and collaboration on emerging related R&D topics.
