The university-level education in electrical and computer engineering was launched in Veszprém in 1991 – among the first in Hungary – under the leadership of Professor Tamás Roska, with the collaboration of an outstanding faculty and dedicated colleagues. Over the past decades, under the leadership of Ferenc Friedler, Rozália Lakner, László Czúni, Ferenc Hartung, and Zoltán Süle, the Faculty has become a leading education, research, and development center in the field of informatics in the Transdanubian region, covering all major branches of informatics.

In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, the Faculty has consistently enhanced its performance through a strong commitment to quality – made possible by its adaptive organizational structure, dynamic operations, and dedicated staff.

The Faculty’s Doctoral School of Information Science and Technology and its accredited research laboratories cover a broad spectrum of the field, including but not limited to:

  • dynamic systems and control theory
  • discrete mathematics and optimization
  • differential equations
  • computer vision
  • virtual environments
  • artificial intelligence
  • health informatics
  • electrical power systems

Since its introduction in 2021, the “Excellent Research Center” designation awarded by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences has served as the official recognition of scientific excellence in Hungary. The application and evaluation system assesses the performance of research communities based on a complex set of criteria, including publication output, innovation performance, talent development, and operational quality. Since the establishment of the award in 2021, the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Pannonia has been the only institution in the region to receive this recognition in the field of computer science.
